What is Khatu Shyam Baga / Vastra Seva?
Khatu Shyamji is one of the most beloved and widely worshipped deities in North India. He is known as Haare Ka Sahara, the support of those who have lost hope, and Shyam Baba, the compassionate one who never turns away a devotee who comes with a pure heart. His shrine at Khatu, Rajasthan draws millions of devotees every year from across India and the world.
Khatu Shyamji is believed to be Barbarik, the grandson of Bhima and the greatest warrior of the Mahabharata era, who willingly offered his head to Shri Krishna. Pleased by his supreme devotion and sacrifice, Krishna granted him the boon that in the Kaliyuga he would be worshipped in his own name as Shyam. He is therefore considered a form of Krishna himself, and his worship carries the full weight and grace of Shri Krishna's blessings.
